Niki had a big family, including a wonderful daughter from her previous marriage and a loving husband. But there was one childhood memory she couldn’t forget. Niki always wanted to adopt a child and give them a loving home.
With her husband’s support, they decided to adopt a child from an orphanage.
They looked at many profiles before choosing a young boy named Rustam, who had a very low chance of being adopted. Rustam was born with several developmental issues. When his mother saw his condition, she abandoned him, blaming an unhealthy lifestyle during her pregnancy. Rustam had facial features that required surgery, was unable to feed himself without a tube, couldn’t speak, and had developmental delays. He was also born with only one leg.
When Niki first met Rustam, she wasn’t scared at all. She immediately started thinking about how she and her husband could help him. One year after the adoption, Rustam began using crutches and later a prosthetic leg to walk. He spent a lot of time with a speech therapist, and now people can understand him when he talks.
At first, other kids didn’t trust Rustam and teased him. They avoided playing with him on the playground. Niki decided to create an Instagram account to share Rustam’s story. She posted funny moments and pictures from their lives. Rustam’s page quickly gained popularity.
As Rustam’s story gained attention, Niki and her son started getting invitations to various TV shows. Niki tries to teach Rustam that what matters most is a person’s soul and that he should never be ashamed of his appearance.
Rustam still has a long way to go, but he will always have the support of his loving family.
