Lance Barber’s final moments as George Cooper Sr. were captured in a heart-wrenching Young Sheldon set video.
CBS recently aired a two-part special that ended with the Coopers’ biggest tragedy. In the episode “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture,” Young Sheldon season 7, episode 12, George Cooper Sr. passed away from a heart attack at work.
That fateful morning, George had a chance to see his wife and twin children before leaving for work. None of them knew it would be the last time they’d see him alive.
A new behind-the-scenes video shared by a Cooper fan on TikTok shows Lance Barber’s last moments on the Young Sheldon set. The video captures George’s final departure from the Cooper family house.
As the cameras started rolling, the set was filled with silence. Lance Barber seemed emotional as he took his final walk as the beloved Cooper patriarch.
Sheldon’s father is a standout character in the family comedy-drama. This is largely because the prequel series defied expectations set by The Big Bang Theory. While The Big Bang Theory painted George as a flawed husband and father, Young Sheldon gave him depth, showing him as a dedicated, albeit imperfect, father.
This created some plot inconsistencies, especially regarding George’s alleged cheating scandal revealed in Young Sheldon. Despite these issues, George’s character was essential to the show’s success.
George’s new, more positive portrayal made Young Sheldon even more engaging, but it also made his death more tragic. Losing a family member is always hard, but it’s even more painful when that family member is someone like George, who devoted his life to his family.
Before his untimely death, George was on the verge of living his dream life. He had the support of his family and was about to start a better career in Houston. However, the show took that future away from him with his sudden passing.
By the time of his death, George had completely redeemed himself. Even Meemaw, who often clashed with him, was shocked and deeply affected by his passing, showing how much he had become an integral part of Young Sheldon.
Now, all that remains is for The Big Bang Theory to acknowledge that Sheldon and Mary were wrong to disparage him during their years in Pasadena.
Young Sheldon has shown that George Cooper Sr. deserved none of the negativity he received.
