Shelter dog Tam is blind and suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which makes his skin very weak and prone to injury, and his joints tend to develop arthritis.
But all of this seems quite irrelevant to the shelter’s cats.
Velvet-pawed Elodie and her feline crew seem to know that Tam needs extra care and offer him their unique kitty massages.
United cat power
Life at the “Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir” (SARA) in Morocco is bustling. The shelter is one of the three stations of the SARA network, which primarily cares for aging and sick dogs.
However, homeless cats are increasingly finding their way there, so at the moment, about 200 little tigers share the grounds.
“To be honest, it’s hard to find a spot here on the farm without being immediately surrounded by cats,”
smiles Hazel Skeet, a long-term volunteer at the shelter.
But there is clearly a star among the animals, and that is the blind Tam.
Tam, the unsolicited star
“Tam regularly shares his bed with at least two cats,”
Skeet continues.
“All the cats love him, cuddle with him, or give him massages.”
It’s simply the cutest sight captured by SARA’s staff.
Tam sits solidly on the ground while one of the cats gently buries her paws in his fur and slowly massages Tam’s shoulders.
You can literally hear their contented purring!
Tam has been at SARA for almost nine years. He was born here with his siblings.
A beautiful dog’s life
Tam’s sister Daccia, who also suffers from the same incurable genetic disease as her brother, lives in the shelter as well.
In addition to the cats, Daccia is Tam’s favorite companion. When he’s not playing with his sister, Tam prefers to bask in the sun and soak up the sounds and scents of the shelter.
“Sometimes a little puppy comes by to say ‘hello,’ which he tolerates, but he prefers cuddling with a feline friend,”
Skeet describes Tam’s daily life.
What could be more beautiful than being surrounded by beloved beings who show him love every day and even give him regular massages?
