Lola is a friendly black and white bulldog. She lives in the Irish county of Wicklow with her owner.
The area is rural and offers plenty of space for long walks in a beautiful landscape.
One day, Lola and her owner pass by a cow pasture. The encounter with the cows has an unexpected effect on the dog.
Black and white? That matches!
The cows in the pasture are Holsteins, as farmers call them. The black fur is interrupted by many white spots.
Wait a minute! Black and white?
That somehow looks familiar to Lola. Exactly. She is black and white as well.
So, if the cows are black and white, and Lola is too, then Lola must be a cow. That’s just logical.
And as a cow, she should obviously live with cows. She’s now standing with her new fellow cows in the pasture and wants to stay here forever.
You’re not a cow!
Lola’s owner tries to clarify the mistake. She calls out to the dog over the fence emphatically:
“Lola, you are not a cow. YOU! ARE! NOT! A! COW! Come here!”
However, Lola doesn’t seem to be impressed at all. Not a cow? Anyone can claim that.
In fact, Lola now looks at her owner as if she’s not her owner but some kind of stage performance.
It’s really great what one can experience as a cow in the pasture: exciting cow theater with loudly shouting people.
A cow couldn’t wish for more entertainment.
And what do the cows have to say about it?
The cows are not very helpful in getting Lola off the pasture.
They seem to have fully accepted the black and white bulldog. At any rate, they show no surprise at all about Lola’s presence.
Only the shouting woman on the other side of the fence briefly piques their interest. Very strange, this human.
