Bullying is a big problem that people everywhere are trying to stop. Parents and teachers work hard to teach kids that bullying is never okay. But what happens when a child starts bullying others? One mom in Texas had a very unusual way of dealing with her son’s bad behavior.
A mom named Star heard that her son was calling other kids “idiots” and “stupid” in class. Wanting to put an end to this, she came up with her own way to teach him a lesson.
Star’s Controversial Punishment
Instead of just telling her son off or making him apologize, Star decided to do something more extreme. She made him wear a t-shirt that said “I AM A BULLY” and took pictures of him before school. Then, she posted those pictures on Facebook.
Star explained to ABC13, “I’m an old-school parent who believes in strong morals. I don’t coddle my children. I don’t sugar-coat the world to them.”
Mixed Reactions Online
Her decision got a lot of attention online. Some people agreed with her strong punishment, while others thought she went too far.
Star said she didn’t post the pictures to embarrass her son. “I posted it to reach out to the parents of any of the kids my son may have bullied so that each one of them could get a personal apology,” she told ABC13.
After receiving negative comments, Star removed the post, but she still believes she did the right thing.
Lesson Learned?
Star asked her son what he learned from the experience. “He said, ‘I learned that I didn’t like the way that felt and I don’t want anybody else to feel that way because of me.’ That’s exactly what I wanted him to take from it,” she said.
Experts think Star’s actions might do more harm than good, but she says her son’s behavior has improved.
“He’s already been treating his sisters better. He’s already been treating his cousins better. He learned from it. That’s all that matters,” she said.
What Do You Think?
Star’s actions are certainly controversial, but if her son has improved his behavior, maybe he learned an important lesson. What do you think? Did Star go too far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
