Fred is a cheerful miniature dachshund. He lives on a vast property in Cheshire, UK, with his two dachshund friends and his human family.
It’s a true dachshund paradise with plenty of space for roaming and chasing around.
However, one day, only two dachshunds return to the house after playing. Fred, the third member, is missing.
The search for Fred begins
The excitement is palpable. Where is Fred? A search party of over 20 family members and friends is assembled. Two days pass, but Fred remains missing.
Then, the searchers hear a faint bark from the ground. It’s Fred. Using a drain camera and a stethoscope, they pinpoint his exact location.
Now there’s no time to lose. A considerable amount of digging is required because Fred is deep in the ground.
Lifted from the depths
The ground is hard, and the sun is scorching, making the digging process challenging.
Progress is slow, taking a full three hours for the rescuers to get close to Fred.
Eventually, the underground tunnel where Fred is trapped is exposed. He looks around in surprise and even yelps in shock when hands reach for him and lift him up.
All is well
After two days in darkness, Fred is a bit disoriented but otherwise surprisingly in good spirits.
He hasn’t suffered any lasting damage, and once he’s in his dad’s arms, everything is back to normal.
The joy is evident on the man’s face. After all, Fred is not just anybody; he’s a beloved family member.
A true dachshund adventure
It’s no coincidence that a dachshund voluntarily roams through underground tunnels. The breed is aptly nicknamed Dachshund, as they were originally bred to follow badgers and foxes into their burrows.
