Self-expression is a key part of individuality, and tattoos are a fantastic way to do this. Richard Huff, 51, has over 240 tattoos and uses them as a means of self-expression. The ink enthusiast is raising five kids with his wife. Despite their normal family life, the internet often reacts with dismay to his wife’s social media posts featuring him and their children.
Richard wants people to know that his family is “no different” from any other. Yet, he admits that strangers regularly ridicule him online because of his appearance. “It became an addiction,” he explained. “
I started with my legs and worked my way up.” Now, 85 percent of his body is covered in tattoos, including his daughter’s lips and their names. “I want to be 100% covered in tattoos probably within the next four years,” he shared. “I don’t know if it’s the pain or the artwork, but it just becomes fascinating.”
Having so many tattoos has its challenges. Richard admitted that the kids at his children’s school think he looks scary. His daughter shared, “They say, ‘Ah, it’s a bit scary,’ and I say, ‘No, my dad is not scary, he just likes tattoos.’”
Marita, Richard’s wife, admitted she was initially terrified of him. “I did judge Richard based on his looks at first, but as I got to know him, I realized he is a big-hearted person,” she confessed. In her blog, she frequently praises him, calling him a devoted husband and loving father. Marita often tells others that Richard is much more than a true father to his three children from previous marriages.
Richard is also very active in his community. “I participate in the PTA and go to all my kids’ functions,” he said. Despite his kindness, many still criticize him. One person commented, “I’m not against tattoos, but honestly, does he really need tattoos on his face like that?”
However, Richard has many supporters. One person defended him, saying, “Everyone keeps talking about his face tattoo. He likes it. He got it. He’s a good father. Let him be.” Richard responded to the criticism, “If somebody can make negative comments like that, there’s something wrong with them.
This is what we did, and we’re happy. We’ve been together six years, our kids are happy, and to us, that’s all that matters.”
Richard added, “Having tattoos does not scare my children, it does not make me a bad father, it gives my kids a different perspective on life.”
Some people find it hard to believe he’s the same person without all the tattoos! Richard Huff is a loving husband and father who is greatly adored by his family. He’s living proof that you can’t judge a book by its cover.
