For a year, every day, dog Major waited for someone to notice him.
The furry friend, residing at the Naperville Area Humane Society, couldn’t understand why nobody wanted to adopt him.
The Humane Society staff had a similar question. Nobody could comprehend why no one wanted to give a new home to this adorable canine.
Nobody Wants Major
“None of us could understand why he wasn’t adopted. He’s really a great dog. We suspect dogs in the shelter too long get overlooked because people think there’s something wrong with them,”
said Kristen Funk, the executive director of the Humane Society, to The Dodo.
Major has everything he needs, except a family
Major always enjoyed going for walks with his caretakers and playing with other dogs at the shelter. But something was missing – a real family.
It truly broke their hearts when his caretakers witnessed day after day passing by without Major finding his people.
“For all his fans here, it was really hard. Everybody had taken to him. Every day when no one showed interest in him was really hard to watch,”
Kristen continued her story with The Dodo.
Major Finally Gets Lucky
But one day, Major’s life was about to change. The Humane Society received a call from Jose, a truck driver who had just lost his own dog and wanted a new companion to accompany him on his trucking journeys.
Kristen knew immediately who would be the perfect match for Jose.
“We knew we had the perfect dog for Jose,”
Kristen further recounted to The Dodo.
Off to New and Exciting Adventures
It didn’t take long for Major to leave the shelter with his new dad. The two climbed into the truck together.
Major was so overjoyed to have finally found his person that he couldn’t stop smiling.
His caretakers are also thrilled that Major has found his family:
“We were all smiles and tears of joy,”
Kristen concluded her story with The Dodo.
Major now travels across the country with his dad, loving nothing more than exploring new places and cuddling with him at night.
