Most dogs have siblings when they are born but are separated from them once they move into their own family.
Not every dog copes well with this. Some four-legged friends mourn their brothers and sisters and feel lonely, especially when their humans leave them alone at times.
This is the case for the Golden Retriever named Molson in Hawaii. But his family has an idea to comfort him.
Stuffed Animal Instead of a Real Furry Friend
Molson is loved and well taken care of by his human family, the Deverys. Nevertheless, he misses his dog family. The Deverys notice this and, right after moving in, they gift him a stuffed animal for comfort: a deceptively realistic-looking Golden Retriever puppy.
Molson reacts as hoped: he falls in love with the stuffed dog and finds in it a substitute for a real furry friend that he so desires. The stuffed dog is named Kelsie and becomes Molson’s constant companion.
Molson carries Kelsie in his mouth all the time, takes her to play, to the food bowl, and on walks. When he rests, he snuggles up closely to his beloved stuffed friend.
Real Furry Friend Instead of Stuffed Animal
This continues until Molson is already an adult. He and Kelsie are inseparable. The Deverys see how important it is for Molson to have a dog as a friend.
While Kelsie provides comfort, she can’t play with him, lick him, or cuddle up to him on her own. Gradually, the family realizes that Molson needs a real furry friend.
So, they plan a surprise for him: they buy a Golden Retriever puppy that looks very similar to Kelsie and bring the little dog home.
Love at First Sight
To make the surprise even bigger, Molson is supposed to unwrap his gift himself. The puppy waits in a ventilated crate with a light blanket draped over it. However, the little girl is too curious and already pokes her head out from under the blanket.
And here comes Molson. As usual, he carries Kelsie in his mouth. But now, he does something he has never done before: he simply puts Kelsie down and ignores her.
He only has eyes for the real puppy. The moment is indescribable. It’s love at first sight. Immediately, Molson starts lovingly licking his new little sister, and the two exchange tender kisses.
Molson’s dream has finally come true; he is overjoyed and can’t stop wagging his tail.
