From a young age, it’s important to teach children to love and respect their country. They should especially learn to honor the sacrifices of those brave people who fought for the freedom we all have today.
One way to show respect to those courageous men and women, as well as to the country, is by standing when the National Anthem is played. Sadly, not many young people do that anymore.
For those who don’t know, The Star-Spangled Banner became the official national anthem of the United States in 1931. The song’s lyrics come from a poem called The Defence of Fort McHenry, written in September 1814 by a man named Francis Scott Key.
Key wrote the poem after watching the British navy bomb Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor during the War of 1812. He saw the huge American flag still flying proudly after the battle, and it inspired him to write the famous words we now sing.
Today, The Star-Spangled Banner is played at sports games and other important events as a reminder that, no matter our race, religion, or political views, we are all Americans.
Singing this anthem isn’t easy—it’s one of the hardest songs to perform. That’s why it’s usually sung by professional singers or played as a recording.
But then came 10-year-old Jadon Perez, who has a voice that’s caught the attention of his family, friends, and even fans online.
Jadon is popular on TikTok, but now he’s become a viral sensation after a video of him singing the national anthem at a golf tournament went viral.
Before Jadon started his performance, someone announced him, saying, “I want him to come try out for The Voice, that’s how good this little boy is!”
Jadon took the microphone and wowed the crowd with his beautiful voice. His performance was so moving that even adults were brought to tears. People couldn’t get enough of his angelic singing, and he earned tons of praise for his talent.
One person commented under the video, “I’m a 75-year-old retired army vet who served twice in South Vietnam and in Desert Storm. Just hearing this young man with this gift made me appreciate what this country is all about. God bless you, young man, and may your life be full of much joy and happiness.”
