Millions of people were told to get ready as Hurricane Milton was about to hit land yesterday. But humans weren’t the only ones who had to prepare. Our animal friends at the zoo also needed to adjust their plans. Luckily, they didn’t have to face the storm alone. The caregivers at St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park were right there to help keep the animals safe.
To protect the animals, many were moved indoors temporarily to avoid the flooding. However, it turns out the alligators were just fine staying outside! One employee even caught an incredible video during the storm. With the rain pouring down, the alligators roaring loudly, and big birds flying in the distance, the employee couldn’t help but say he was “getting Jurassic Park vibes!”
One person even joked in the comments, “In the event you cannot check your Waffle House index, please listen for the gator warning system.” Another chimed in, “Gators and rain. That’s Floridian ASMR.”
You might be wondering, why were the alligators bellowing? There’s actually more to their roar than you might think. You can check out the video to find out why they were so noisy during the storm!
Before hitting land, Hurricane Milton was a Category 5 storm. It caused some damage, but thankfully the worst didn’t happen. The zoo staff were relieved to report that everyone, including the alligators, were just fine after the storm passed.
