Sylvester Stallone has spent much of his career carefully crafting his no-nonsense, tough-guy image. Through franchises like Rocky and Rambo, Sly became a household name. But it turns out, his gruff, often intimidating persona isn’t just for his on-screen characters.
Audiences will get a candid look into Stallone’s home life with his new reality show, The Family Stallone. The 76-year-old’s private life is sparking real interest, especially his parenting style with his three daughters: Sophia, 26, Sistine, 24, and Scarlet, 20. The girls have shared how it’s impossible for them to date anyone under their father’s watchful eye, even saying he scares potential boyfriends away.
Protective dads looking out for their daughters’ best interests is nothing new. The trope has been a Hollywood staple for as long as Hollywood has existed. But Stallone takes an old-school approach to his daughters dating new men.
One scene from the upcoming The Family Stallone, set to release on May 17, has generated a lot of buzz. The Expendables star proves he will strictly guard his daughters’ innocence. According to the Daily Mirror, the clip shows Stallone on the verge of a meltdown after one of his daughters jokingly tries to convince him she’s pregnant.
For the legendary actor’s birthday, daughter Sistine and her mother baked a cake. They wrote “I’m Pregnant” on top to get a reaction. And react he did. In the clip, Stallone quickly loses his cool.
“Please turn these cameras off so I can destroy this place,” he says. “I’m going full Rambo.”
He later calmed down when he realized it was a joke, but he didn’t find it funny.
In the same episode, Sistine talked about the challenges of dating with their dad around.
“Dating when you have the dad that we do is rough,” the 24-year-old said. “The first time a boy came over to meet my parents, he’s going in for the first kiss. I was so nervous and excited.
“He looked up at the balcony and said, ‘Oh my God, what is that?’ It was my dad, standing on the balcony, backlit so you just see a silhouette. He’s so cinematic. This kid jumped in the car and I never saw him again.”
As for Stallone’s decision to let cameras into his home to film and scrutinize his family life, he had a good reason.
“I’m on the road so much and I looked around and thought, my daughters are grown up,” he explained. “Wouldn’t it be great to spend some serious time with them where they couldn’t escape, where they had to be with me?”
Fathers will always be protective of their daughters, but is Sly taking things too far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
