Losing a pet without being able to say goodbye is a nightmare for all of us. Fortunately, there is social media where we can post when a dog is missing.
But what if you lost your furry friend on a mountain?
A Nightmare for Every Dog Owner
That’s what happened to the Goetelen family from Ireland.
One Saturday morning, they were hiking in the Wicklow Mountains with their 3-year-old German Shepherd, Harley, and their 8-year-old Golden Retriever, Naoise.
But suddenly, their dogs were nowhere to be seen.
The next day, they found Harley in a parking lot, but there was still no sign of Naoise.
Their owners feared the worst.
Because the Wicklow Mountains in County Wicklow, Ireland, are among the most dangerous and challenging mountains on the Emerald Isle.
In the winter, large parts of the mountain range are covered in ice, and the rock isn’t the most solid.
Doctors Without Borders
Rescue came in the form of two more hikers, Jean-Francois Bonnet and Ciara Nolan, both doctors.
They noticed something trapped between the rocks and then saw that it was a weakened and frozen dog.
The Golden Retriever, Naoise, couldn’t bark or walk.
Jean-Francois and Ciara wrapped her in their clothes and provided first aid. They gave Naoise a snack and then carried her down the mountain.
A scarf saves a dog’s life
According to the article in the Irish Times, Ciara used a scarf to attach Naoise to her backpack.
The descent of nearly 10 kilometers took almost 5 hours. Once home, the two doctors fed Naoise and warmed her up.
After contacting the local animal rescue, the Golden Retriever was reunited with her family.
Happy Ending After an Unintentional Adventure
Naoise and the Goetelens were overjoyed to finally embrace each other after two weeks of worry and waiting.
The video of the rescue has gone viral and has now reached nearly half a million views on YouTube.
Of course, we wouldn’t want to keep you from seeing the dramatic dog rescue video:
