A Tragic Day at Sea: The Story of Aline and Beatriz
On a sunny day in Brazil, two popular influencers, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, age 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, age 27, were set for a fun day aboard a luxury yacht off the beautiful coast. They had gathered with friends for a yacht party filled with laughter, drinks, and sunshine. But sadly, what was meant to be an exciting day turned into a tragedy.
Little did they know, they were partying near a dangerous spot known as the “Devil’s Throat.” This area was infamous for its powerful waves and unpredictable waters. As the party continued, Aline and Beatriz made a decision that would turn fatal; they chose not to wear life jackets.
“They felt life jackets would ruin their tanning and their perfect selfies,” explained police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino. He added, “Some didn’t want to put them on because they were taking selfies.” This decision would prove to have dire consequences.
The yacht was designed to hold five people, but there were six on board—this overcrowding would later play a critical role in the unfolding disaster. On September 29, just as the influencers were enjoying themselves, a massive wave crashed into the overloaded vessel. The boat buckled under the weight, and panic filled the air as it began to sink!
One of the survivors, Vanessa Audrey da Silva, who miraculously managed to grab a life jacket, recounted the terror of that moment. “There was a moment in the water when no one could see anyone. I was fighting for life,” she said. Her words reflected the chaos around her as friends and partygoers struggled to stay afloat.
Another survivor, Camila Alves de Carvalho, remembered clinging to her life jacket and battling the waves. “We almost died. We didn’t know how to swim,” she revealed. In her fight for survival, she sustained injuries and swallowed a lot of water.
Alongside Vanessa and Camila, three others survived: Daniel Goncalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima, and Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva.
As the yacht quickly filled with water, the captain—under pressure to accommodate all six guests—tried desperately to save everyone. But the odds were against them. While the captain did his best to help, chaos ensued. The ocean was unforgiving, and the friends were swept away by the powerful waves.
Tragically, Beatriz was found first by Brazil’s Maritime Firefighters. Her body was discovered drifting in the sea. Aline’s body was later found days later, washed ashore on Itaquitanduva Beach.
The deaths of Aline and Beatriz shocked the community and raised serious questions about what went wrong. A formal investigation was launched to determine whether negligence was to blame. Commissioner Alfino stated, “All this is being determined very calmly to conclude if the fatalities were based on recklessness or negligence.”
Authorities are closely examining the safety violations, especially the fact that the yacht was carrying more passengers than it should have and that Aline, who could not swim, had not worn a life jacket.
In her last hours, Aline had shared joyful photos on social media, posing on the yacht and soaking up the sun. Her last posts, filled with smiles and laughter, serve as a haunting reminder of the day’s tragic turn. It is a cautionary tale about the dangers of prioritizing social media appearances over safety.
The investigation continues, as officials seek to hold accountable all those involved in the tragic yacht party. “We want to make sure that something like this never happens again,” Commissioner Alfino said.
This heartbreaking story of Aline and Beatriz reminds us all of the importance of safety, especially when enjoying the beautiful waters of Brazil.
