Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s romance rekindled after twenty years, igniting hopes of a fairytale ending for many fans. However, some people, including close friends, warned against it.
According to the Daily Mail, insiders revealed that superstar actor Matt Damon, one of Ben’s closest friends, cautioned him about reuniting with Lopez before they married in a 2022 Las Vegas ceremony.
Damon was reportedly desperate to prevent Affleck from spiraling out of control and relapsing under the pressure of public speculation about his marriage.
Recent weeks have been tough for fans of the “Bennifer” couple. Reports say Ben Affleck has moved out of their Beverly Hills home, which is now back on the market. Meanwhile, Lopez canceled her planned North American tour to spend more time with her family.
Adding to the drama, neither Affleck nor Lopez has issued a statement to deny the rumors of their impending divorce, making the situation seem quite dire.
Many believe that warnings came early on, especially from Matt Damon. The Daily Mail reported that Damon, 53, advised Affleck to “focus on his work” to stay on track with his professional goals.
“Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with JLo that this could happen,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split, and he felt like this would happen again.”
Affleck values Damon’s opinion highly, especially since Damon has enjoyed a rock-solid marriage with his wife, Luciana Barroso, for nearly two decades.
Affleck and Damon have been close friends since childhood, and they launched their careers together by writing the Oscar-winning screenplay for “Good Will Hunting.”
“As things started falling apart, Matt told Ben that he supports whatever choice he makes but wants him to jump in and focus on his work,” the insider continued. “Ben spent so much time focusing on JLo’s projects just like he did the first time around.
He told Ben, ‘What has she ever done for your career?’”
