Diana was feeling a whirlwind of emotions—both happy and nervous—as she prepared to marry Tom. The small cottage where she stood with her bridesmaids smelled sweet with flowers. Outside the windows, she could see guests arriving and taking their seats in the garden. Her bridesmaids, wearing soft lavender dresses, buzzed around her, fixing her hair and adjusting her dress, their cheerful chatter lifting her spirits.
Diana smiled, reflecting on the journey that had brought her to this day.
Tom had come into her life when she needed him most, and they had been together for three wonderful years. Not only had he been a great partner, but he had also become an amazing father figure to her five-year-old son, Ethan. The bond between Tom and Ethan was heartwarming—whether they were building Lego castles, racing toy cars, or exploring the park together, they always seemed to be having fun. Watching them filled Diana’s heart with joy.
“Mama, look at me!” Ethan’s voice snapped her back to the moment. Diana turned to see her son standing proudly in his tiny suit, his blue eyes twinkling with excitement. He looked so grown-up, and it made her eyes well up.
“You look so smart, Ethan,” she said, kneeling down to be on his level. “Are you ready to help me today?”
Ethan’s face lit up as he replied, “Yes, Mama! I’m gonna be the best ring bearer ever!”
Diana hugged him tightly, feeling a wave of love and gratitude. Today was about more than just marrying Tom; it was about creating a new family, a future filled with hope and happiness.
Just then, the door opened, and one of her bridesmaids, Kelly, peeked in. “Diana, it’s almost time. Are you ready?”
Taking a deep breath, Diana nodded. “Yes, I’m ready.”
As they stepped out into the garden, the sight took Diana’s breath away. The aisle was beautifully lined with flowers, leading to the altar where Tom stood waiting. All the guests were smiling and chatting, adding to the perfect, dream-like atmosphere of the day.
“Ethan, are you ready?” she whispered to her son, squeezing his hand gently.
“Ready, Mommy,” he said, his face glowing with excitement.
The soft strains of music filled the air as they walked down the aisle. Diana could feel the warmth of the guests’ smiles as they watched her and Ethan. Her heart raced with happiness, especially when she saw Tom at the altar, beaming at her with love in his eyes. His gaze made her heart flutter, and a tear of joy slipped down her cheek.
“Daddy, look at me!” Ethan called out joyfully.
Tom chuckled, his smile widening. “I see you, champ. You look so smart!”
Ethan puffed out his chest with pride. “I’m a big boy today!”
“You sure are!” Tom replied, then turned his gaze back to Diana, his eyes full of unspoken emotions. They didn’t need words to understand each other—they were a family, and today marked the start of a new chapter.
When they reached the altar, Tom took Diana’s hand. “You look stunning,” he whispered.
“Thank you, Tom,” she whispered back, smiling. “I can’t believe this is real.”
“It’s real,” he said, his smile deepening. “And it’s perfect.”
Diana looked down at Ethan, who was grinning up at them. “We did it, sweetheart,” she said softly.
“We did it!” he echoed, bouncing excitedly.
The officiant began leading them through their vows, the moment feeling surreal and magical.
“Do you, Tom, take Diana to be your wife?” the officiant asked.
“I do,” Tom answered, his eyes never leaving Diana’s.
“And do you, Diana, take Tom to be your husband?”
“I do,” Diana replied, her voice filled with emotion.
Just as the officiant was about to pronounce them husband and wife, a small but determined voice cut through the ceremony.
“I object!”
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Diana’s heart stopped as she turned to see Ethan standing with a serious expression. Why would he object? Confused and stunned, she knelt down to face him.
“Ethan, sweetheart, why do you object?” she asked gently.
Ethan held up a small, worn-out rattle, his hand trembling slightly. “Tom has another family, Mama! I heard him talking to his mommy about his daughter. Is Tom cheating on you, Mommy?”
The air in the garden thickened with murmurs as the guests began whispering in shock. Diana’s stomach tightened in a knot, and she turned to look at Tom, who appeared just as stunned. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.
The officiant looked bewildered, glancing nervously between Diana, Tom, and the guests.
“Ethan, what do you mean?” Diana asked softly, trying to make sense of the situation. “What did you hear?”
Ethan looked down at the ground. “I heard Tom talking to his mommy about his daughter. He said he has a daughter, but I didn’t know about her. Why didn’t he tell us, Mommy?”
Diana took a deep breath, trying to stay calm as she processed Ethan’s words. Her gaze shifted to Tom, who finally found his voice.
“I can explain,” he said, his voice breaking through the growing tension. He turned to face the guests, but Diana stopped him with a raised hand.
“Ethan, are you sure you heard him say that?” she asked, her heart pounding.
“Yes, Mommy,” Ethan insisted, his little face full of sincerity. “Tom said he has a daughter.”
Tom stepped forward, his eyes meeting Diana’s as he addressed the crowd. “There is a baby involved,” he said carefully, “but it’s not what you think.”
A fresh wave of gasps spread through the guests. Tom scooped Ethan up and held Diana’s hand firmly.
“Everyone,” he continued, turning to face the crowd, “we’d like to announce that we’re expecting a baby. Ethan, you’re going to be a big brother!”
A collective “Oh!” filled the air, followed by a mix of gasps and laughter. The guests’ shock turned to smiles, applause breaking out as the tension dissolved into excitement.
“Really? I’m going to be a big brother?” Ethan asked, his face lighting up.
Diana, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks, hugged him tightly. “Yes, sweetheart, you’re going to be the best big brother ever.”
Tom joined the embrace, wrapping his arms around both of them. “I’m sorry if we confused you, buddy. We wanted to surprise everyone.”
Ethan grinned from ear to ear. “We’re having a baby?”
“That’s right, champ,” Tom said, chuckling. “We’re having a baby.”
The crowd erupted into cheers, laughter filling the garden as the officiant beamed. “Well, this certainly is a special day! Let’s continue with the ceremony.”
Tom and Diana exchanged the final vows, and at last, they were pronounced husband and wife. The crowd cheered as they shared their first kiss as a married couple, their hearts bursting with happiness as they stepped into their future as a growing family.
Later, as the sun set, casting a golden glow over the garden, Diana watched Tom and Ethan play together. Her heart was full. Their journey as a family was just beginning, but it was already overflowing with love and joy.
