When Jess and Michael got engaged, her cousin Sarah offered to sew Jess’s wedding dress as a gift. It seemed like such a kind gesture, but when Jess tried on the final version, she realized it was two sizes too small! Would Sarah fix the mistake, or would Jess have to take matters into her own hands?
Jess and Sarah’s relationship had always been tricky. Sarah was the loud, attention-loving one, and it was easier for the family to let her be the center of everything, leaving Jess in the background.
But when Jess and Michael got engaged after four wonderful years together, Jess felt like her moment had finally come. The family was thrilled for her, and even Sarah threw a big girls’ night out, celebrating Jess as the first cousin to get engaged.
During the party, with a glass of champagne in hand, Sarah bounced over to Jess with a wide grin. “Jess! I have the best idea!” she said excitedly.
Curious, Jess smiled and asked, “What is it?”
“I want to make your wedding dress for you!” Sarah beamed, swaying a little to the music.
Sarah was a talented seamstress, and despite their complicated history, Jess was touched by the offer. It felt like a special way to add a personal touch to the wedding.
“Really? You’d do that for me?” Jess asked, her heart swelling with emotion.
“Of course! It’ll be perfect!” Sarah said with enthusiasm, her smile lighting up the room.
That night felt magical, and for once, Jess believed their relationship was headed in a better direction. They spent weeks looking through wedding magazines, picking out fabrics, and discussing designs. Everything seemed to be falling into place, like a dream come true.
A few weeks later, Jess met Sarah at her studio for the final measurements. Sarah was thorough, measuring every inch of Jess while chatting about the design.
“You’re going to look amazing,” Sarah said with confidence.
“I hope so,” Jess replied. “I’ve been watching my diet closely, and I’m finally at a weight I feel happy with. I just want to keep it up until the big day.”
Sarah nodded and smiled. “You look great, Jess. If anything changes, just let me know, and we’ll do another fitting.”
Feeling excited, Jess left the studio, eager to see the final dress. But when the day of the final fitting came, her excitement quickly turned into a nightmare.
Jess slipped into the dress, but it wouldn’t zip up. It was way too small. Panic gripped her as Sarah stood there, arms crossed, smirking.
“Jess, have you gained weight before the wedding?” Sarah asked, her voice full of fake concern.
Jess’s heart sank. With just two weeks left until the wedding, she had no dress.
“I haven’t gained any weight,” Jess insisted, feeling the sting of embarrassment. “If anything, I’ve lost a bit with all the stress.”
Sarah shrugged, completely unfazed. “Well, I’ll try to fix it, but I have other clients with deadlines too. I can’t promise anything.”
Driving home, Jess couldn’t shake the feeling that Sarah had done this on purpose. The smirk, the comment—it all seemed too deliberate. Sarah wanted to sabotage her.
That evening, Jess vented to Michael, unsure of what to do next.
“Show me the dress,” Michael said calmly as he poured himself a glass of water.
“No way! It’s bad luck for you to see it before the wedding!” Jess exclaimed, horrified.
Michael chuckled. “Well, why don’t you take it to Mrs. Lawson? She’s a friend of my mom’s, and she’s done miracles with alterations. Maybe she can help.”
Jess took his advice and rushed the too-small dress to Mrs. Lawson, a retired seamstress known for her talent.
“Oh, honey,” Mrs. Lawson said kindly when she saw the dress. “Michael told me everything. Don’t worry, I’ve seen worse.”
Together, they transformed the dress into something completely new. Instead of the traditional gown Jess had originally imagined, they turned it into a chic, short, cocktail-style dress—bold, unconventional, and absolutely perfect.
On her wedding day, as Jess stood in the bridal suite looking at her reflection, she felt beautiful. Her dad walked in, his eyes widening with pride.
“My darling, you look incredible,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.
“Thanks, Dad,” Jess smiled. “It’s not the dress we planned, but it’s perfect.”
“That’s all that matters,” he replied, offering her his arm as the ceremony music began.
As Jess walked down the aisle, she could feel the admiration from the guests. When she reached Michael, the look on his face was one of pure love and amazement. In that moment, Jess knew he was falling in love with her all over again.
But before the ceremony began, Jess glanced over at Sarah, curious about her reaction. Sarah’s face was pale with shock. She had expected Jess to be humiliated, but instead, Jess was radiant.
The ceremony was flawless. Michael’s vows were so heartfelt, they brought Jess to tears. Surrounded by love, Jess knew she had made the right choice in marrying him.
At the reception, as Jess mingled with guests, Sarah cornered her.
“Jess, what happened to the dress? Where’s my original design?” Sarah demanded, trying to hide her confusion.
Jess smiled sweetly. “I took your design and made it better. Remember? You said you weren’t sure if you could fix it, and it was way too small.”
“So, you just threw away all my hard work?” Sarah snapped, clearly irritated.
“No, Sarah. Your work was the foundation for this dress, but Mrs. Lawson made it so much better. She wanted me to look and feel beautiful on my wedding day,” Jess explained calmly.
Sarah stood there, speechless, as guests continued to rave about how stunning and unique Jess’s dress was. She had no choice but to listen.
“Come on, love,” Michael called from across the room, smiling. “It’s time for our first dance, and after that, I’m hitting the buffet!”
Jess laughed, finally feeling at peace and fully content.
