My husband and I are currently living with his parents to save money. It’s not an easy situation, especially since my mother-in-law despises me. I often feel like she’s counting down the days until we move out. To make matters worse, my birthday just passed, and that day turned out to be one of the most stressful of my life.

On my birthday, I received a beautiful Tiffany bracelet as a gift from my mom. When my mother-in-law saw the fancy box, she snatched it right out of my hands without saying a word! I was stunned. With a swift motion, she ripped the box open, and when she saw the bracelet inside, her eyes turned cold, filled with fury.

“How dare he spend money like that while living in MY house? I have the right to this jewelry, not you!” she shouted. I was shocked. It seemed like she thought my husband bought me the bracelet, but in reality, he had only given me a simple bouquet of flowers.

I understood it was just the right thing to do; our finances are tight right now, and we need to save as much as we can.
