My Parents Wanted Me Married to Save the Family Business, So I Chose a Farm Girl to Annoy Them — But She Outsmarted Us All!
I’ve always been what you’d call a spoiled kid. My parents were rich and powerful, and all I cared about were my inheritance, money, and my piece of the family business. I lived my life like it was one big party, throwing my money around like confetti. But then, everything changed.
One day, my parents sat me down. Dad looked serious, and I could tell this was going to be one of those important talks. “Son,” he said, his voice deep and firm, “it’s time for you to settle down. If you want to inherit the business, you need to get married.” My mouth dropped open.
Marry? Me? I was having too much fun being single, going out with friends, and living life to the fullest!
I was furious. “You can’t be serious!” I shouted back. “I’m not getting married just to keep the family business going!” But my parents were firm. “It’s tradition,” my mom added, her eyes shining with determination. “You need to find someone to help run the business with you.”
Feeling rebellious, I decided to spite them. I thought, “If they want me to marry, I’ll pick someone they’d never approve of.” That’s when I came up with my plan to find the most unlikely bride: a farm girl. I could just imagine the shocked look on their faces!
After searching for a while, I came across Mary. She was hardworking and down-to-earth, living on a beautiful farm with rolling hills and wide-open fields. I had no intention of falling in love; I just wanted a girl who could make my parents freak out.
When I told them about Mary, they gasped in disbelief. “You can’t marry her!” Dad shook his head. “She’s not from our world!” But I stood my ground. “I’m marrying her whether you like it or not!”
It was the perfect plan.
Then came the charity ball last week. My parents had insisted I bring Mary along, thinking they could expose her as a poor country girl in front of all their wealthy friends. I was nervous but determined.
As we walked into the grand hall, with its sparkling chandeliers and elegant decorations, I could see people whispering. They were curious about Mary, and I felt a flutter in my stomach. But there was something about her confidence that made me proud.
Suddenly, the mayor of our town, a well-known figure, walked over. I expected him to ignore Mary, to treat her like she was nothing. But then, something surprising happened. His face suddenly lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw her.
“Mary!” he exclaimed, taking her hand with great enthusiasm. He actually bowed, as if she were royalty or something.
“Wonderful to see you!” he added, his voice cheerful. “You’ve been doing amazing work down at the community farm! Your contributions have been invaluable.” I stood there, completely stunned. Here was a significant man praising my farm girl, and all I could do was stare.
Mary smiled back, bright and confident. “Thank you, Mayor! I love helping out with the crops and teaching kids about farming.” I could see the admiration in her eyes as she spoke, and I felt a strange mix of pride and embarrassment. This girl was winning everyone over while I just stood there, feeling foolish.
As the night went on, I watched Mary charm every guest she met. The wealthy elite who usually looked down on others were captivated by her stories about farming and community. I could hear them whispering, “Who knew someone from a farm could be so engaging?”
All the guests were drawn to her warmth and passion. It was like she was a magnet, and they were all falling under her spell.
Later, as we were dancing, I leaned down to Mary and whispered, “I never thought you’d shine like this.” She looked up at me, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Looks like I’ve outplayed you and your plans, huh?”
“Oh, you definitely have,” I laughed, realizing that maybe this wasn’t such a bad situation after all.
In the end, I found myself questioning my own views about love, family, and what it truly meant to be a part of something bigger than myself.
I may have aimed to spite my parents, but Mary turned out to be more than just a way to annoy them — she was someone with dreams, strength, and a heart bigger than my family’s expectations.
I left that night thinking, “Who would have thought that a simple farm girl would not only win over my parents but also show me what really matters?”
