Hi, I’m Linda, and I always thought I raised my son, Connor, right. He was about to marry a wonderful girl, Carrie, and they were planning a business venture together. But one speech from the maid of honor turned our world upside down.
A Proud Mother
I’ve always considered myself a good mother. I tried not to be overbearing or one of those “helicopter moms.” I taught Connor to respect women, the elderly, and to stand up for the weak. He grew up into a true gentleman.
When he brought home his girlfriend, Carrie, I welcomed her with open arms. Who could have known their wedding would become such a disaster?
First Impressions
Of course, I did a bit of snooping around. Carrie seemed like an ordinary girl: she drove an old car, took public transportation, and didn’t ask Connor for expensive gifts. Her presents to us were tasteful but never extravagant.
Occasionally, she treated herself to a spa weekend or a fancy meal, but I figured she was just good at saving money. After all, every girl deserves to indulge herself once in a while, don’t you think?
A Surprise Meeting
Imagine my surprise when we met her parents, and a luxury car picked us up! It turned out her father owned a renowned building company, and their family was very wealthy. When I asked why Carrie lived so modestly, her mother explained they had an agreement: they wouldn’t fund her day-to-day expenses but would support her if she started her own business. Plus, they’d pay for her dream wedding.
The Business Plan
Although Carrie didn’t have a business plan yet, I saw Connor’s eyes light up. He had always dreamed of starting a technology company, but we never had the money, and he had no luck with grants. Naturally, he saw this as a perfect opportunity. When he explained his idea to Carrie, she was immediately on board. They discussed it non-stop, and I was thrilled to see them planning their future together.
A Growing Concern
As the wedding approached, Carrie started acting differently. She was trying hard to meet Connor’s expectations for their business, but I could see she was struggling. When I asked if there was a problem, she politely dismissed my concerns. I suspected family issues or a small fight with Connor, but I even wondered if she might be pregnant. I decided to let the kids sort things out on their own.
The Wedding Day Bombshell
On the wedding day, Carrie seemed particularly anxious, but I brushed it off as normal nerves. As she walked to her seat, I noticed her maid of honor, Susan, arguing with Connor. I sensed disaster brewing. When the time for speeches came, the room fell silent as Susan raised her glass. She began with the usual thank-yous and then dropped a bombshell.
“Carrie, you’ve been my best friend for years. But I can’t keep this secret any longer. Connor and I have been having an affair for months!”
The Shocking Response
Silence fell, and all eyes turned to the bride. To everyone’s surprise, Carrie erupted in laughter. “Wow, Susie,” she said, “Thank God you had the guts to confess. I thought I’d have to do it myself!”
“You see,” Carrie continued, “I knew you two couldn’t be trusted. So, I installed hidden cameras in the house. And what did I see? Two lovebirds in my nest!”
She snatched the microphone from Susan. “Thanks to my dad, we drafted a nice prenup that my soon-to-be ex-hubby signed without reading. Infidelity leaves you with nothing! But don’t worry, guys, I laced your pieces of cake with a slow-acting laxative!
Enjoy your first night together, bastards!”
Chaos Ensued
Chaos erupted. People ran to the toilets, spitting out cake, while the bride and her family watched from afar.
Seeing my confusion, Carrie walked up to me and took my hand. “Don’t worry, Mrs. Green. You’ve always been kind to me. You’re safe to enjoy the cake.”
That day, I walked out of the wedding hall feeling completely shattered. I realized I didn’t truly know the man I raised.
