Old Lonely Lady Receives Deliveries from Unknown Person Every Day, the Last Was a New Home – Story of the Day

Emma Richards sat in her small, quiet house, the only sound coming from the old television set in her bedroom. She had lived alone for the past seven years, ever since her beloved husband, John, passed away. They had built a life together, but without children, Emma had no one left to share her days with. The loneliness weighed on her, creeping into every corner of her existence.

One ordinary afternoon, as Emma settled into her chair, the doorbell rang. She wasn’t expecting visitors and rarely had any. Curious, she made her way to the door and slowly opened it.

Standing on her porch was a delivery man, probably in his forties, wearing a uniform and a mask that covered most of his face. In his hands were several boxes.

“Hello, ma’am,” the man greeted politely. “I have a delivery for you.”

Emma frowned. “There must be a mistake. I haven’t ordered anything. Are you sure these are for me?”

The man nodded. “Yes, ma’am. They were sent anonymously. But don’t worry—our security team checked them. They’re perfectly safe.”

Emma hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Well, that’s strange… but thank you, sweet boy.”

She carefully took the packages inside, her curiosity getting the best of her. As soon as she set them down on the table, she quickly unwrapped the first box. Inside, she found a brand-new oven toaster, a sandwich press, and a coffee maker.

Her eyes widened. “Who on earth would send me these?” she murmured.

She opened the second box and gasped. It was filled with beautiful clothes—soft cardigans, warm shawls, and comfortable slippers. Alongside the clothing, there were groceries—fresh fruits, vegetables, and some of her favorite snacks.

For the first time in years, Emma felt a sense of wonder and anticipation. But she had no idea who was behind these gifts.

The next day, the doorbell rang again. It was the same delivery man with more packages. This continued day after day, and each time, Emma grew more eager to see him.

One afternoon, she decided to strike up a conversation. “What’s your name, sweet boy?” she asked as he handed her another set of boxes.

The man smiled behind his mask. “My name is Ted Harrison, Mrs. Richards.”

He then pulled an envelope from his pocket and extended it toward her. “The sender requested I give you this. They’d like you to read it while I wait.”

Emma’s hands trembled slightly as she opened the envelope. The note inside was written in neat, careful handwriting:

Mrs. Richards, please let me know what you need, and I will provide it for you.

Emma let out a small gasp. “Now they want me to make requests too? Oh, I am dying to know who this mysterious person is!” she exclaimed, half in wonder, half in frustration.

Ted chuckled. “Whoever they are, they must care about you very much.”

Emma thought for a moment before deciding to play along. She didn’t want to ask for too much, so she wrote down only simple necessities—some fresh produce, cleaning supplies, and a few books to keep her entertained.

From then on, Emma prepared a little something for Ted whenever he visited—tea, sandwiches, or cookies. Over time, she began looking forward to his company. Ted, in turn, helped with small chores around the house, fixing broken things and carrying heavy groceries inside.

Weeks passed, and Ted’s presence became a comforting part of Emma’s daily routine. Then, one day, he didn’t come.

Emma waited and waited, but there was no knock on the door, no cheerful voice greeting her. Concerned, she decided to go to the local post office to ask about him.

“Excuse me,” she said to the young woman at the reception desk. “Can you please page Ted Harrison? I wanted to give him some donuts.”

The receptionist frowned. “I’m sorry, ma’am. But there’s no one by that name working here.”

Emma’s heart dropped. “That can’t be. He’s been delivering my packages every day for the past month!”

The woman shook her head. “I’m afraid there’s no record of a Ted Harrison employed here.”

Emma left the post office, her mind racing with confusion. Who was Ted? Was he really a delivery man? She trudged home, overwhelmed by the mystery surrounding the kind stranger who had brought her so much joy.

When she reached her house, she noticed a small box sitting on her front porch. Her hands trembled as she picked it up and found a note attached:

I learned the truth just a month ago when I decided to hire a private investigator to find out where I came from. I know you blame yourself and regret what you did. But I want you to know that I don’t blame you. I understand that you only did what you thought was best.

You and your husband couldn’t afford to raise me, so you gave me up for adoption. I was taken in by a wonderful, wealthy family who loved me as their own. But even with all the love they gave me, I always felt like something was missing.

That something was you, Mom.

If you’re willing, I recently bought a house and had a key made for you. I would love for you to move in with me, to let me take care of you the way you once wished you could take care of me.

With love, your delivery man, Ted.

Emma clutched the note to her chest, her vision blurred with tears. Her son—her baby—had found her. And all this time, she had been spending time with him without even knowing it.

A sudden knock at the door startled her. With shaking hands, she opened it.

Standing there was Ted, his mask removed, his eyes filled with emotion. “Hi, Mom,” he said softly.

Emma let out a choked sob. “My son… I can’t believe it…” She pulled him into a tight embrace, her body wracked with sobs. “I am so sorry, sweetheart. I truly am. I never stopped thinking about you. I wish… I wish I had been stronger back then.”

Ted hugged her just as tightly. “You don’t have to be sorry, Mom. I’m here now, and I want to be with you. It’s not too late to start over.”

That night, Ted helped Emma pack her belongings. A moving truck waited outside, ready to take her to her new home. When they arrived, Emma was overwhelmed to see Ted’s wife and children waiting for her with open arms.

“Welcome home, Grandma!” the children cheered, hugging her.

Emma’s heart swelled with happiness. For years, she had believed she would die alone, haunted by her past. But now, she had a son, a family, and a second chance at love and belonging. And from that day forward, Emma was never lonely again.

Lessons from this story:

  1. The past doesn’t have to define your future. Emma thought she had lost her son forever, but life gave her another chance.
  2. Forgiveness brings healing. Instead of being bitter, Ted chose to forgive and embrace the mother who had once let him go.
  3. Love finds a way. No matter how much time passes, love has a way of bringing people back together.

And so, Emma’s lonely days were over. She had found her son, her family, and a second chance at happiness.
