In the 1960s, the buzz around The Beatles reached its peak. They were not just a band; they were a cultural phenomenon that changed music, fashion, and hairstyles forever.
The Beatles were known for their sharp suits and iconic mop-top haircuts. This hairstyle, with its side-swept fringe and textured look, became hugely popular and is still linked to the band today.
Over the years, McCartney has played with different hairstyles. He’s tried shorter cuts, and at one point, he even sported a beard and mustache, always staying fashionable with the trends of the time.
Hi everybody, I’d like to thank you all for the great birthday wishes you sent to me and the love that came with them. I once was 33, then I was 45, and now I’m 78 and spinning at 78 rpm!!! Keep rocking, many thanks and lotsa love Paul ❤️#FlashbackFriday pic.twitter.com/feAiW6vDcJ

In 1969, the same year he married Linda, he grew a thick beard that many admired. In fact, this beard became so famous it even got its own Instagram page, called “the finest beard in rock n roll history!”
As fashion changed, McCartney adapted his hair to match, trying various lengths and styles while keeping his signature charm. However, not every hairstyle experiment went smoothly. According to the New York Daily News, during his marriage to Heather Mills, he decided to dye his hair at home. It turned out to be a disaster! “I looked like a clown!” he said. Mills had to call professionals from a Manhattan salon to fix the mishap.
Eventually, McCartney embraced his natural aging hair. In 2018, when he was 76, he made an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, proudly showing off his beautiful silver hair. For 30 years, he had dyed his hair brown, but now he flaunted his natural color. The Daily Mail noted that even though he had kept his hair dark for years, he began to embrace the grey, especially around his sideburns.

After recording his 18th solo album, “McCartney III,” in 2020 during the Covid lockdown, his silver hair became part of his distinguished image.
In March 2024, McCartney was spotted enjoying the sun on the beaches of St. Bart’s with his wife, Shevell. He wore a stylish long-sleeved black shirt paired with sunset-print shorts, his silver hair blowing in the breeze. Shevell, 64, looked great in black shorts and a colorful long-sleeved top.
Recently, McCartney shared a sweet post on social media to wish his father and his former bandmate, Ringo Starr, a happy birthday. Fans couldn’t get enough of it, with one commenting, “You’re so cute!” and many others expressing their admiration.
