Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 18, has decided to change her last name, following in the footsteps of her siblings.
Here’s the scoop…
On May 27, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, who just turned 18, filed legal paperwork to change her last name to match her mother’s, Angelina Jolie, instead of her father’s, Brad Pitt. From now on, she wants to be known simply as “Shiloh Jolie.”
TMZ reported that Shiloh filed the paperwork on Memorial Day, which was also her birthday. The name change isn’t official yet, but it should be soon.
Shiloh’s decision aligns with a family trend. Her sisters, Zahara and Vivienne, have also dropped “Pitt” from their names in some instances.
In May 2024, People magazine noted that Vivienne was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in the playbill for the musical “The Outsiders,” where she works as a production assistant alongside her mother, who is the show’s producer.
In November 2023, Zahara joined Spelman College’s Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In a video shared by Essence, Zahara proudly introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie,” noticeably leaving out “Pitt.”
“My name is Zahara Marley Jolie,” she declared, flipping her hair and dancing as her sorority sisters cheered her on.
The backdrop to these name changes is the ongoing legal battle between Angelina and Brad. They are embroiled in disputes over the joint ownership of a French winery and allegations of abuse. Angelina filed for divorce in 2016, and in 2019, they were declared legally single. However, their 2021 joint custody agreement remains a contentious issue.
Further complicating matters are recent allegations made by Tony Webb, who provided personal protection for Angelina from 2000 to 2020. Webb shared insights from his time with the family, suggesting that Angelina might have influenced the children’s perception of Brad.
“Ross Foster, one of the individuals, said he would testify about Ms. Jolie encouraging the kids to avoid spending time with Mr. Pitt during custody visits,” Webb revealed.
This revelation caused a stir on social media, with many expressing shock at Angelina’s alleged actions.
One commenter said, “The fact that she cannot see the harm this is doing to their kids is just shocking.” Another added, “It’s probably why Shiloh is moving in with her father now… She’s realized her mother is vindictive and has been trying to alienate them from Brad for years.”
Someone else commented, “The worst possible thing a person can do… alienate their children from a parent. Shame on her.”
Others speculated that Angelina’s behavior might be a reflection of her own turbulent childhood. “Her childhood was similar from what I read. Maybe she can’t break that perpetual cycle or doesn’t want to,” one person noted.
Despite the controversy, Angelina remains dedicated to being a loving mother. In a candid 2011 interview, she shared that her parenting style is deeply influenced by the close relationship she had with her own mother.
She emphasized the importance of being both a parent and a friend to her children, fostering open dialogue and shared interests.
“My mother was incredibly kind and sweet, and I strive to be like her,” Angelina said. “I want to raise my kids with the same values and love that she gave me.”
