French-Canadian singer Gabriella Laberge had big dreams for her audition on America’s Got Talent, but things almost went sideways right from the start. After a slightly awkward opening interview, Gabriella took a deep breath and began to play a nice violin piece.
However, it sounded like something you might hear from a street performer on Main Street, and it didn’t seem special enough to impress the judges. Simon Cowell hovered his hand over the red buzzer, ready to send her home. But Gabriella had a surprise in store.
Suddenly, she opened her mouth and filled the room with a delicate, soulful voice as she started singing James Blunt’s emotional song “Goodbye My Lover.” Simon’s hand quickly moved away from the buzzer, and the other judges began to warm up to this talented musician from Montreal.
Gabriella added her own twist to the song, leaning into its folk elements and giving it a little twang. Then, she smoothly transitioned into a stunning violin solo during the bridge, intensifying the outro and earning a standing ovation from the audience!
At just 28 years old, Gabriella made a brilliant choice with “Goodbye My Lover.” The song allowed her to showcase both her singing and violin skills while connecting emotionally with everyone listening. The judges were so impressed that all four of them hit their buzzers, sending a thrilled Gabriella through to the next round.
Judge Howie Mandel exclaimed, “Wow, I love this!” as Gabriella played her beautiful solo. Fans online were just as excited, leaving comments like, “She’s amazing! She plays the violin like a master and sings like an angel. She’s the entire package!”
Gabriella had already made waves in the music world before, having performed a stunning blind audition of Coldplay’s “The Scientist” on The Voice France in 2016, which became the fourth most popular audition on the show’s YouTube channel.
Before stepping on stage, Gabriella shared her journey, saying, “Growing up, I watched America’s Got Talent every week. Never in my life would I expect to be here. This is the opportunity of my life to chase my biggest dream, which is to do music for the rest of my life.”
Later, while on stage, she told the judges, “I think the American dream could come true, and I’ve been dreaming of this moment for as long as I can remember.” With her heartfelt performance, she certainly made her dream come true, earning a clean sweep of yes votes from the judges.
However, despite her incredible audition, she didn’t make it further in the competition when the judges had to cut contestants during the deliberation for the top 36.
Gabriella had better luck on The Voice France, where she reached the quarter-finals in the fifth season. She also made it to the semi-finals of Destination Eurovision 2019, which is the contest to choose the French entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, competing with her song “On cherche encore (Never Get Enough).”
Gabriella Laberge is a talented musician, not only for her amazing singing but also for her incredible violin skills. With her delicate and soulful rendition of James Blunt’s “Goodbye My Lover,” she’s sure to leave you in awe. Don’t miss out on her future performances!
