A dog named Chauncey waited alone in her kennel at the Spartanburg Humane Society and watched as her fellow dogs found their new families.
She also wishes for nothing more than to find her forever family, but there’s something standing in her way.
Chauncey just watches
To see the other dogs, the puppy stuck her head through a hole at the bottom of her kennel. It was a very heart-wrenching sight.
Chauncey was shy and reserved, which made it difficult for her to find a new home.
“Chauncey is very shy until she gets to know someone. With all the barking and commotion in the shelter, she just watched the world go by,”
reported Angel Cox, executive director of the Spartanburg Humane Society, to The Dodo.
With heart and patience: Animal shelter staff give Chauncey hope
The shelter staff comforted her and spent time with her to keep her company. They took care of her lovingly and didn’t give up hope.
The puppy enjoyed being petted by the staff and volunteers and going for walks with them.
Everyone knew she could be a wonderful companion, and they were sad she had to wait so long.
The power of social media
Even though she had been returned once before, Chauncey didn’t give up and continued to hope for finding a family.
Eventually, a family saw a post about Chauncey on Facebook and reached out.
This time, Chauncey displayed her charming and loving personality, and it was immediately clear that she and the family were a perfect match.
A new beginning with a loving family
She left the shelter with her new family, full of happiness.
“We were so happy for her to have found a wonderful home, but we always miss them when they leave us. It’s bittersweet when they get adopted, but deep down, we’re always happy,”
Cox said.
