A father and his 16-year-old daughter tragically lost their lives in a terrifying accident in Ogden Canyon, Utah. The crash occurred when a bulldozer, being carried by a tow truck, flew off the truck and hit the family’s pickup truck.
Richard Hendrickson, the CEO of Lifetime Products, was driving with his wife and three kids when the unexpected disaster struck. The tow truck, which was heading in the opposite direction, was carrying a mini bulldozer.
While navigating a curve in the road, the bulldozer broke free from the tow truck and flew into the path of the Hendrickson family’s vehicle. The heavy machine crashed into their GMC pickup truck, which was pulling a boat behind it.
The impact was devastating. Richard and his daughter, Sally, tragically lost their lives in the crash. The other passengers in the vehicle, Richard’s wife Julie and two of their other children, survived but suffered minor injuries. The family’s fourth child, Lyssa, was not in the car that day.
She is currently living in Thailand, working as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The loss of Richard and Sally sent shockwaves through their community. Richard was known for being a visionary and a trusted leader, both in his business and in his community. In a statement, Lifetime Products, where Richard worked as CEO, expressed their deep sorrow: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of our CEO and President, Richard David Hendrickson.
This heartbreaking incident also claimed the life of one of his daughters, Sally.” The company described Richard as “more than a company leader.” They also noted that he was a “visionary and a friend to many within our business and the wider community.”
Barry Mower, the founder of Lifetime Products, shared his grief as well, saying, “He was one of my most trusted and cherished friends and will be sorely missed.”
The Governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, also expressed his condolences, writing on social media, “Richard was a friend and incredible leader. We are heartbroken by his tragic passing with his daughter Sally.” He continued, “We mourn with the surviving members of his family and pray they will find comfort and healing.”

One person replied to the governor’s post, saying, “Praying for Richard’s family, this is absolutely senseless! Gov. Cox, you and your administration MUST do something to strictly regulate and severely penalize unsafe loads.”
In the wake of this tragedy, people began calling for stricter regulations to ensure that no more accidents like this happen. A petition was started to limit the types of vehicles allowed on the narrow, dangerous road where the crash occurred.
The petition explains, “We are raising this petition to enforce regulation on the types of vehicles permitted on Highway 39 that transverses the heart of Ogden Canyon. There is an urgent need to limit the particular categories of vehicles that can drive through this constricted roadway, ensuring the security of all who rely on it.”
