Veronica Shea lives in California with her dog near the Angeles National Forest.

It’s a great place to take her four-legged companion for a walk in the beautiful forested landscape that also extends over a mountain.

However, on this particular day, she makes a discovery that turns her life upside down for weeks.

A furry face in the bushes

Suddenly, in the middle of the wilderness, Veronica sees a furry face appear and disappear between the trees at some distance.

She immediately recognizes it as a dog, and there doesn’t seem to be an owner nearby. So she follows the four-legged friend up the mountain.

There, she not only encounters one furry face but two more large dogs.

The three Mastiffs are far from being aggressive; in fact, they are scared and keep their distance from Veronica.

The woman concludes that the dog siblings were abandoned in the wilderness and she wants to help them.

Trust takes time

The endeavor is anything but easy. The dogs are too frightened to let Veronica approach them, let alone allow her to put a leash on them and take them with her.

But Veronica doesn’t want to leave the three on their own. So she goes to the mountain every day to bring them food and gain their trust.

Initially, she places the food and has to move away for the dogs to dare to eat. But gradually, she is allowed to come a little closer.

After a few weeks, a delicate bond of trust has formed, to the extent that the dogs even eat from Veronica’s hand.

To capture the dogs, she seeks help. An entire team of volunteers arrives, including equipment and tools to build a cage.

It works – the three Mastiffs are lured into the cage, and then the helpers carry them down the mountain.

Unexpected Happiness

Princess George, Grace, and Steve, as the siblings are named, are too frightened to be adopted.

Therefore, dog trainer Cheri Wulff Lucas takes care of the three dogs. She manages to make the Mastiffs accept touches and be leashed.

However, there is still a long way to go before they can truly trust humans and live in civilization without issues.

But by now, they trust Cheri, and they don’t have to live in a city anymore because Cheri, who resides in the middle of the wilderness far from other people, will keep her three wards forever.

This is undoubtedly the greatest happiness that Princess George, Grace, and Steve could have found!
