Ava’s marriage to Peter wasn’t perfect, but she never imagined it would end the way it did. They had their ups and downs, but she always held on, hoping things would get better. That is, until the day she found out about his affair.
One night, close to midnight, Peter came home drenched in sweat, looking tired. “Sorry I’m late, honey. I had to finish a project at work,” he said. But something about his story didn’t sit right with Ava. Peter had been acting strange for weeks, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was hiding something.
The next day, Ava decided she couldn’t ignore her suspicions any longer. She needed to know the truth, so she followed Peter. Her heart pounded as she drove, second-guessing her decision. Should she trust her husband, or listen to her gut?
When Peter parked far from his office and walked up to a house, Ava’s stomach churned with dread. A stylish woman opened the door and greeted Peter with a warm hug. They exchanged a few words before he walked inside.
Ava’s world crumbled. Peter was having an affair. Suddenly, everything made sense—his coldness, his late nights. The man she thought she knew had become a stranger.
That night, when Peter came home late again, Ava couldn’t keep it in any longer. “Are you having an affair with that woman?” she asked, hoping against hope that he would deny it. But deep down, she already knew the answer.
Peter didn’t even try to lie. “Yes, Ava. I’m in love with her,” he admitted. He went on to explain that what started as a fling had turned into something more, though he insisted he still loved Ava too.
As if that wasn’t enough, Peter blamed her for the affair. “You’ve been so cold and distant,” he accused, his words cutting her deeply. But Ava had reached her limit. “Peter, I want a divorce,” she said firmly.
But Peter wasn’t having it. “I’m not signing any divorce papers,” he snarled, his anger flaring. He threatened her, making it clear that he wasn’t going to let her go easily.
That night, Ava cried herself to sleep, feeling trapped and desperate. How could she continue living with him, knowing he loved another woman? As she lay in bed, tears streaming down her face, she heard Peter’s footsteps and the sound of a door closing.
The next morning, Peter was gone. His side of the bed was empty, and so was the house. Panicking, Ava noticed that the safe had been cleaned out—the money, the jewelry, even Peter’s passport were all gone.
Desperate for answers, Ava drove to Peter’s mother’s house. When she arrived, Martha opened the door, looking furious. “This is all your fault!” Martha yelled. “If you hadn’t pushed for a divorce, Peter wouldn’t have left!”
Ava couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Are you aware Peter was having an affair?” she asked, trying to make Martha see reason.
“So what?” Martha shot back. “You should have never brought up divorce. This is all on you.”
Realizing Martha wasn’t going to help, Ava returned home, feeling more alone than ever. Days passed without a word from Peter. His phone was off, and he ignored all her emails. Ava was losing hope of ever finding closure.
Then one day, while flipping through TV channels, Ava heard shocking news: a plane had crashed, and Peter’s name was on the list of those killed—along with his lover’s. Ava was in complete disbelief. Peter was dead. As she tried to process the news, Martha showed up at her door, crying and blaming Ava for her son’s death.
Two years later, Ava decided it was time for a fresh start. She took a trip to a nearby city, hoping to leave her painful past behind. One quiet afternoon, while grocery shopping, she saw a man who looked exactly like Peter. Her heart raced. “Peter…” she whispered, but he didn’t respond. The resemblance was too strong to ignore.
As she followed him, she spotted Martha nearby. Ava’s mind spun—how was this possible? She called out Peter’s name, and to her shock, he turned around. “I can explain everything,” he said, urging her to get into his car. Confused and desperate for answers, Ava agreed.
As they drove to Peter’s place, he revealed the horrifying truth. He had been on the plane that crashed, but he survived and used the money he stole from Ava to start a new life. His lover had died, and Martha had helped him create a new identity. While Ava mourned him, Peter was living a new life, free from the marriage he had abandoned.
Ava was overwhelmed with anger and betrayal. She yelled at Peter, who tried to calm her down. He invited her inside his house, promising to explain everything. Feeling trapped, but with nowhere else to go, Ava agreed. But once inside, Peter’s demeanor changed. He turned violent, attacking her out of fear that she would expose his secret. He knocked her unconscious and locked her in the basement.
For days, Ava cried for help, but no one heard her. She begged Peter to let her go, promising she wouldn’t tell anyone, but he didn’t trust her. Finally, Martha came down to the basement. She told Ava she would let her go if she swore not to hurt Peter. Desperate to escape, Ava agreed.
Martha unlocked the door, and Ava bolted out of the house. She jumped into Peter’s car and sped away, ignoring Martha’s shouts to walk instead. But Ava was weak and disoriented, and soon lost control of the car. It crashed into a tree, and everything went black.
The next thing Ava knew, she was waking up in a hospital bed, an officer waiting to talk to her. He explained that they had traced the car’s plates to Peter, who had been living under a false identity since the plane crash. Ava told the officer everything she knew, her testimony becoming the key to putting Peter behind bars.
“The case is complicated, but your testimony is crucial,” Officer Daniels told her. “Peter is facing prison time for his actions, and Martha is also under investigation as an accomplice.”
Finally, Ava felt a sense of relief. Justice would be served, and she could finally start over, leaving the nightmare behind.
