Shelby adopted Ricky as a puppy after noticing him on Facebook. She immediately felt that Ricky was meant to be with her.
However, she had no idea about the unexpected way he would make her laugh again and again.
But then the moment came when she wanted to play ball with Ricky for the first time. She placed the tennis ball on the floor, and that’s when it happened:
Ricky started to dance! He alternated jumping with all four paws and hopped up and down.
The sight is ultra-adorable and hilariously funny at the same time, making Ricky look like the wildest disco dancer.
He is completely focused on the ball, never taking his eyes off it. When Shelby throws the ball, Ricky sprints after it and brings the beloved toy back.
However, as soon as the ball is in front of him again, the dance begins anew – and it’s not a one-time whim or a puppy trait that will later disappear.

In the Rhythm of Music
Shelby noticed that Ricky dances at different speeds. She concluded that he adjusts his movement rhythm to the sounds he hears.
Since she enjoys dancing herself, she conducted an experiment: She played music, sometimes faster and sometimes slower, and danced with him.
Ricky doesn’t even acknowledge that his owner is dancing behind him, but he indeed syncs his dance to the music.
Can You Train That?
Shelby often sees big, astonished eyes when people witness Ricky’s ball dance for the first time.
She frequently gets asked how she managed to teach him this, but she disappoints them because she didn’t teach him; he just started doing it on his own.
As for why Ricky has this response to balls, she can only speculate: perhaps it’s the adrenaline because he’s so excited, and he has his unique way of expressing it.
Ricky is undoubtedly a very athletic dog and, at the same time, a pup who’s crazy about toys and playing.
