Gene Hackman was recently seen out and about with his rarely-seen wife, Betsy Arakawa, and fans were shocked by his frail appearance.
The 94-year-old actor, who has been retired for years, made a rare public appearance, catching everyone’s attention.
Hackman, dressed in a checkered button-down shirt under a gray vest and green-gray cargo pants, completed his look with a cap and sunglasses. Though still able to walk, he used a cane in one hand and held onto his wife with the other.
This outing was significant as it marked the couple’s first public appearance together in over two decades.
A classic image of Gene Hackman in the movie “The French Connection” surfaced online, reminding fans of his past.
In this iconic film from 1971, Hackman played the determined detective Jimmy Doyle, uncovering a heroin smuggling operation between Marseille and New York.
However, the recent photos of Hackman led to a flurry of comments on social media about his appearance. Many were taken aback by how different he looked.
One person remarked, “It’s sad to see him aged.” Another comment read, “That doesn’t look like him one bit,” while someone else said, “I love him… I never would’ve recognized him, though.”
A particularly striking comment stated, “It looks like the wind could take him away,” highlighting his frailness.
Despite the shock and sadness from fans, seeing Gene Hackman with his wife after so many years was a poignant reminder of his incredible career and the inevitable passage of time.
